Kuwait plans to import Iraqi gas, newspaper reports

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Kuwait is carrying out talks to import Iraqi gas through international companies, the Kuwait-based Al-Jarida newspaper reported on Wednesday.   “ Kuwait is carrying out negotiations to import gas from Iraq within 1 to 1.5 years,” the newspaper quoted oil sources as saying, adding that “ Kuwait is not negotiating with the Iraqi government in this respect, but with international oil companies working in Iraq .”   It pointed out that the quantity, to be imported by Kuwait was not defined till now, adding that Kuwait had not imported gas from Iraq since the latter’s occupation of Kuwait more than 20 years ago.   The newspaper pointed out that “ Iraq is burning 700 million cubic feet of gas from southern Iraq ’s Basra oil fields, but the quantity of gas it invests is not to the level of ambition.”   It added that such quantities of gas needed high-level international technology and investments by a specialized international company, thing that did not take place, due to Iraq ’s security circumstances that forced the Baghdad government to “burn out the gas.”   SKH (IT) 727
