Iraqi troops arrest a man and take him to a lock-up for interrogation

Anbar ( – Three Islamic State terrorists were arrested Monday on charges of targeting security forces and citizens in Anbar province, a security source was quoted as saying.

“A security campaign was launched after receiving intelligence reports on the presence of three terrorists implicated in targeting security forces and citizens with explosive charges in al-Karma district, east of Fallujah,” Almaalomah news website quoted the source as saying.

“The terrorists were moved to a lock-up amid high security measures for interrogation,” the source added.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.

In December 2017, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced full liberation of Iraqi lands from Islamic State, declaring end of war against IS members.
