Italian mission discovers temple wall in southern Ur

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: An Italian archeological mission working in Tal Abu Tbeira, Thi-Qar province, unearthed the wall of a temple that dates back to the year 2500 B.C.near the ancient city of Ur, according to the committee to defend Ur Tuesday.“The Rome University team that started its works nearly a month ago has achieved a major breakthrough by unearthing the wall of a temple near the archeological city of Ur, 18 km southwest of al-Nasseriya,” the committee chairman Ameer Doushi told IraqiNews.com news agency.He added that the mission, in association with the University of Thi-Qar, organized a lecture on the effect of environment on the Sumerian civilization and would arrange for another one in English on ancient languages in addition to a concluding five-day workshop for the students of the mass communication college on antiquities, tourism and the media.Thi-Qar, 375 km south of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, is home to 1200 registered archeological sites, topped by Ur, the birthplace of the Prophet Abraham and a city that is mentioned as holy in the Old Testament and is considered one of the most ancient civilizations in the world.AmR (ST)Number of Reads:171
