Sihail, UN delegation discuss political situation in Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Qusai al-Sihail, discussed with a delegation from the UN Assistance Mission to Iraq (UNAMI) the political situation in Iraq as well as the formation of the Federal Council.

A statement by Qusai’s office cited on Sunday “Sihail received the Deputy Special Representative of the UNAMI, George Posten, and his accompanying delegation where they discussed the political situation of Iraq and the ratification of laws, most notably the formation of the Federal Council.”

Sihail highlighted the “UN’s advisory role as it enjoys acceptability from all.”

The 1st Deputy Speaker stressed that “The Federal Council will supervise the legislations approved by the parliament and diagnose any legal or constitutional defects.”

For his part, the UN official confirmed the “UN’s adherence to support the democracy in Iraq.”
