Iraq signs 3 MoUs with UNESCO

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki received on Thursday UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura, the international organization’s special envoy Sheikha Moza bint Nasser and their accompanying delegation as the two sides signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) in the fields of education and culture. “Iraq, leaning on great ancient Sumerian and Babylonian civilizations, has a honorable history encouraging it to be a modern state. We are going ahead with the path of culture and science,” Maliki was quoted in a cabinet statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency. The delegation members expressed UNESCO’s readiness to continue cooperating with Iraq in the domains of education and culture rehabilitate the Iraqi universities, particularly the colleges of medicine, and provide training for education, cultural and academic specialists, the statement added.
