KA MP: independency of IHEC means keeping it detached from Government

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) MP, Qasim Mohamed Qasim, of the Kurdistani Alliance clarified that “The independency of the Independent High Electoral Commission means keeping it away from the government rather than the independence of its members.”

He stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The independency here means that the IHEC is not attributed to the government,” noting that “It is independent in respect to its financial and administrative aspects.”

“The members of the IHEC will be nominated from the political sides,” he added.

“It is not possible to nominate independent figures because the IHEC is independent from the professional side only,” he stressed.

“The current IHEC can continue its performance despites the defects,” he mentioned.

“After extending the IHEC term for 35 days, the blocs may conduct new discussions over nominating its new members post Eid al-Fitr,” the statement concluded.
